Between the collaborative efforts of L’auberge des Migrants, MSF, A Home For Winter, Help Refugees and many other grassroots organisations and individual volunteers, 700 shelters, housing around 3000 people, have been built. Importantly, all of the people on the ‘most vulnerable’ list, including all the women and children, have now been provided with secure, fully-fabricated shelters.
We want to say a huge thank-you to everyone who has supported us through the last 3 months – we would not have been able to do this without you! An extra-special thanks to the many volunteers who gave their time, energy and skills to come out and assist in the workshop and the camp – you are all amazing!
This milestone also marks a turning point for A Home For Winter in Calais as we are winding down the production of fully-fabricated shelters at the workshop. From here-on L’auberge’s fantastic self-build programme is being prioritised in order to house the remaining 4000 or so people in need of housing in the camp as quickly as possible, and we will be directing our resources and volunteers to assist them as much as we can.
In 2016 we hope to be able to expand our scope a little further. More on this soon!
